Now more than ever, wellness is at the forefront of human minds—and that concern for health extends to our pets. To help you keep your pup healthy and happy this year, we’ve rounded up some of the top wellness trends you can expect to see in 2018. Give them a try to keep your dog in top shape.
It can be tough to tell how healthy your dog is. But wearable wellness trackers make it easy. In addition to tracking your pup’s activity, some brands like FitBark also track your dog’s sleep habits; plus, it links to your Fitbit so you and your dog can get healthy together. The Wonderwoof tracker provides daily activity goals based on your pup’s size, breed, and age, and it comes with a free app that lets you map your walk and connect with other dog lovers in your area. The PetPace Health Monitoring Collar tracks your dog’s vitals and lets you know when something is wrong. We tested out the Link AKC Collar to see if it’s worth the hype (spoiler: it is).
Because fetch should be as much fun for you as it is for your dog, toy companies have started making interactive toys. The PETLOGIX Zinger helps you throw as far as 100 feet and provides hands-free pick up so you never have to touch a slobbery ball again. PlayDate is a remote-control ball that lets you play with your pup even when you’re not home (you can control the ball with an app on your phone). If your pup is super active, pick up a K-9 Kannon, which shoots tennis balls for your dog, or check out these skipping stones, which let you play fetch with you pup in the water.
Self-care is a growing health trend for humans—and it’s on the rise for pups, too. Countless hotels and resorts are taking your pup into consideration by offering luxury treatments for dogs. D-Pets Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan offers a private dog chef and a dog gym. Hotels such as Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth offers a pet turn-down service with a treat, a massage and even a customized L.L. Bean dog bed with your pup’s name on it. Las Ventanas al Paraíso in Mexico has pet cabanas, massages, dog butlers and even “doga” classes. Fetch Club in New York City offers a blueberry facial and aromatherapy for your pup.
Doga is great but it’s not the only workout you can do with your pup. Some bootcamps now offer dog-friendly classes such as Leash Your Fitness in San Diego and Thank Dog Boot Camp, which has multiple locations in the U.S. Other cool classes you can take with your dog include Go Fetch Run, which is a class that focuses on running with your pup, and Fitness with Fido, which offers classes such a Pupliates, which (you guessed it) is pilates with your pup.
Reading food labels is important for the health of both you and your pup. In 2018, expect to see cleaner dog food labels and a bit more transparency when it comes to the ingredients in your pup’s next meal. (We’re already on-trend here at Ollie—we list every single ingredient on our labels.) Nonprofits such as the Clean Label project are working hard to create transparency in the industry so you know exactly what your pup is eating.
The Ollie blog is devoted to helping pet parents lead healthier lives with their pups. If you want to learn more about our fresh, human-grade food, check out ollie.com.
