New year, new…pup? We know, we know, your dog is perfect just the way he is, but if you’re still trying to figure out a resolution for 2018, consider getting your pup in on your promises. Because chances are, whether you’re aiming to drop a few pounds or get more exercise, your dog can help you reach your goals (and have way more fun in the process!). Check out these New Year’s resolutions that will benefit both you and your pup in 2018.
Let’s face it: When it comes to workout buddies, no one is more reliable (or cuter) than your dog. This year, pledge to take him on a long walk at least a few days a week. Your dog will love the extra attention, plus moving together will improve heart health and stave off obesity (for both of you!).
If your pup still doesn’t have a reliable “come” or “drop it” command, now is a good time to hone his skills (and maybe even pick up some new tricks!). Signing up for a local dog training class will be a great refresher course for both of you—and it’ll help your pup burn off all that extra energy.
Take a cue from the mindfulness movement and enjoy the present moment with your favorite animal. Whether you venture out to the dog park or simply spend more time snuggling on the couch, dedicating some one-on-one time to your pup will benefit you both (we can feel our stress levels lowering already). If you’ve been toying with the idea of adding another pup to your pack, the new year is a wonderful time to adopt. Check out these five things to know before you take the plunge.
When it comes to your pup, you’ll do whatever it takes to keep her happy and healthy, including taking her to regular vet appointments. But what happens if there’s an emergency? If you’re looking for some peace of mind, pet insurance can be helpful. Of course, whether or not you decide to get it is a personal choice (both emotionally and financially), but if you’ve been considering it, now may be a good time to weigh your options.
